Podcast of the Week: Application Security Weekly

After a break, I am back with the podcast of the week! This time we will be looking at Application Security Weekly, the best podcast for every AppSec enthusiast. It doesn’t matter if you are into AppSec, DevOps, or DevSecOps. Application Security Weekly will bring you the information you need to stay up-to-date.

About the show

The Application Security Weekly delivers interviews and news from the AppSec, DevOps and DevSecOps. Hosts Mike Shema, John Kinsella, and Akira Brand take us on the journey through modern security pracitices for apps, cloud, containers, and much more. One of my favorite books is the The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Terry Pratchett. You can treat this show as the hitchhiker’s guide to AppSec.

Mike Shema

Mike is an active author who writes about information security, 80s music, dystopian sci-fi, and spooky horrors. He has spent the majority of his career in tech, working as a director of engineering for Qualys, a Product Engineer for Yahoo or CISO for Cobalt.io. Now he is splitting his time between Product Security in Block and being the host of Application Security Weekly.

John Kinsella

John is a security-focused engineering lead with years of experience in tech. He wrote his first lines of code back in 1982 and has been working for the State of California, the US Government, several international organizations, and a handful of private and public corporations. He is an active member of various organizations (including The Apache Software Foundation). Nowadays, he is an advisor at Airavana and one of the Application Security Weekly co-hosts.

Akira Brand

Akira is a technologist in the broadest sense of the term: a developer, tech community leader, enthusiastic tech educator, ideation queen, and most recently, a bridge builder between the tech world and fine art forms. She started her career as an opera singer and voice teacher and later moved into the tech world as a full-stack developer and later as a DevRel over at Bright Security. Leveraging her diverse background, she has now moved into AppSec as an Application Security Engineer at Resilia. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and growing gourmet mushrooms. Being one of the Application Security Weekly co-hosts, Akira really is the whole package.

Featured episode – E215: Akira Brand

The episode I am highlighting today is one of the older ones. Some time ago, I started getting more into the topic of how to create educational resources for developers to learn about secure coding. And that was exactly what Akira covered in the interview! Prepare yourself for nearly 40 minutes of high-octane knowledge!
